Sunday Morning Pancakes - Panqueques

De un tiempo hasta esta parte mi familia ha adoptado una nueva tradición: la de hacer panqueques domingueros.

Se hacen rapidísimos y hay miles de recetas. Yo sigo la mía: “el ojo personal” del perfecto batido.

Los rellenamos con lo que se nos ocurra, el favorito  es el humilde de azúcar con limón. Una delicia!

Además, me voy  a Cambridge con mi amiga y comadre Diana, nos internaremos en algunas tiendas de moda y luego veremos Nostalgia por la Luz, en Art Picture House cinena. Tiene variados premios y uno de ellos es por mejor documental de 2011. El desierto de Atacama en Chile, los observatorios y los detenidos desaparecidos; interesante conexión.

From some time, my family has adopted a new tradition: to have Sunday morning Pancakes.

They are so fast and easy to make, there are plenty of recipes around so it is matter of choosing what it suits you. Mine is the “personal eye” of the perfect mix.

We fill them with anything; our favourite so far is the humble lemon and sugar. Exquisite!

I off to Cambridge in a little with my friend Diana, we will dive in some fashion shops and then we will see at the Art Picture House Cinema, the award winning documentary “Nostalgia forlight”. The Atacama Desert in Chile, the astronomy observatory and the missing people in the dictatorship of Pinochet, a very interesting combination.

Barra ~ One summer dream

Buscando una fotos me encontré con un álbum del hace algunos años, no han sido tantos, pero los niños visiblemente han cambiado.

Nos fuimos de vacaciones de verano a las islas Hébridas en Escocia, enclavadas en el Atlántico.

Tomamos un vuelo en Londres, conexión en Glasgow y de ahí una avioneta a las islas. El aeropuerto era la playa y la pista de aterrizaje era en plena arena cuando la marea estaba baja. Increíble aventura; aguas turquesas y un sol único. Arrendamos una casa con vista al mar en una colina, una maravilla. Atesorados recuerdos.

Looking for some pictures I found a photo album from some years ago, not many, but clearly the children have changed quite a lot.

We spent our summer holidays in the Hebrides Island in Scotland, right in the Atlantic Ocean.

We took a BA plane form London, connecting in Glasgow and then a light aircraft to Barra. The airport was in the beach and the landing strip was pure sand - tide permitting. Incredible adventure that was. Turquoise waters and a unique sun were expecting us. We rented a magnificent house on top of the hill with sea views. Oh treasured memories!

Sun making magic.

Wow, Los niños de vacaciones de verano, panoramas mil y sol radiante para inaugurar los eventos. Increíble.

Hemos hecho de todo un poco; reunión con las ladies de Ely (y una para de beatlesmaniacas simpatiquísimas), cine, restaurantes, mucha piscina, desempolvar las bicicletas, helado en cono todos los días mientras nos  sentamos viendo la gente pasar, parque, río, jardín… Hemos tenido mucha vitamina D.

También con Thomas fuimos a encender velitas  la iglesia ortodoxa de Cambridge  en el nombre alguien muy especial. Fue una experiencia única escuchar la misa en griego y ver lo ferviente de la comunidad. Después de todo, la iglesia fue fundada en la misma Palestina año 33. La separación de la iglesia católica ocurrió en el 1058.

When I opened my front door, I got dazzled by the enormous amount of light. I heard nothing but the birds singing and the bees buzzing... perfect summer morning.

I met with the Ely Ladies, and 2 new girls that happened to be Beatles fun, which was fantastic!

We have done so much and so much to do yet. We have mostly enjoyed the bike rides, the cinema, the restaurants, the swimming pool, the trips to the river, the daily ice-cream in the gelateria shop. We have had plenty of vitamin D.

With Thomas we also went to the Orthodox Church in Cambridge to light some special candles in name in the memory of special someone.  Very interesting to hear the mass in Greek and reflect that the Orthodox Church was alive since year 33 in the very Palestine and the separation of the Catholic Church was in 1058. I am passionate about this subject.

Framed Crochet flower bouquet ~ Flores enmarcadas

Como muchos ya saben, el verano en este país ha sido extremadamente raro, lluvia y días nublados es lo que abunda y poco o nada hemos visto el sol. Por lo mismo, y para perpetuar la bella imagen estival de la primavera florida, he creado mi propio canastillo de colores danzantes. En mi casa siempre será primavera.

Tejí el fondo a palillos para darle un tono parejo, luego a crochet hice las flores por separados y finalmente, con la ayuda de una herramienta mágica en manualidades, pegué todo rápidamente con la pistola de goma/ silicona! Quién se acuerda  casa Club TV, el canal de cable en Chile que transmitía programas desde Miami y las creaciones de Lucy Pereda. Siempre ayudada de su pistolita famosa!

Most of you already know about this really freaky weather we have had. This summer has been nothing but rain and cloudy days. For this reason, and in order to prolong and perpetuate the ever spring, I have created my own flower bouquet.

I knitted the background with a plain colour, then I crocheted the flower separately and finally, with the help of a magic tool in handcraft, I stuck rapidly everything with the glue gun/silicone!

Who can remember that Casa Club Tv channel all the way from Miami and Lucy Pereda working her eccentric handcraft, always helped by her little glue gun? Haha! those were the days!

Mi marido me trajo estos mini perfumes desde  Nueva York. Me encantan las miniaturas, con eso no me quedo estancada en fragancias que no me agradan tanto y me permite probar de todo un poco.

Mi husband brought me this form his last trip to New York. I love mini perfumes, is a nice way to try different fragrances without getting stuck with a big bottle  that one dislikes.

Y un regalo que me he dado yo misma. Cubrecama algodón percale egipcio… una maravilla al tacto y hermoso diseño de Orla Kiely. No puedo esperar a acostarme y ni me dan ganas de levantarme en las mañanas. Música de Satie en los audífono y estoy lista en el paraíso.

And this is a gift to myself. I very soft, cheerful duvet cover of percale cotton. I cannot wait to get in bed and it very hard to get out of it in the morning. Satie in the earphones and I am in heaven.

Es un día tan especial para mí, el sol brilla en Uk-  algo raro, y acabo de recibir una llamada de Royal School of Music, diciéndome que mi hijo ha aprobado el examen con distinción! Qué día más hermoso para mi familia!

Hablando de manualidades, hace unos días me embarqué en una nueva aventura: las muñequitas de tela… y este fue el resultado, una mezcla entre conejo y gata para una chiquita que estaba de cumpleaños.

This is simply a great day! Sun is shining – something unusual, and I just got a phone call from The Royal School of Music saying that Thomas passed his exam with Distinction! What a wonderful day for my family!

Talking now about handcrafts, few days ago I started a new adventure: little fabric dollies and this was the result. It is a mix between a rabbit and a cat for a little birthday girl.

Candy neck warmer ~ Cuello de algodón

El verano en este país es algo parecido al invierno chileno . Nos ha tocado lluvia todos los días, a distintas horas y en algunos lugares de Inglaterra han habido terribles inundaciones… PLOP!

Lo único sugerente de este clima es el recogimiento e inclinación a  las actividades hogareñas...  y yo feliz tejo!

Este es un regalito para una bebé en Chile. Un cuello de bambú y algodón. Suave!

The summer time in this country is something similar to the Chilean Winter. It has been raining every day almost and in some places around the Uk, there has been awful floods... :S

The only suggestive about this is the withdrawal and inclination towards the indoors activities, so I knit happily!

This is a little present for a special baby in Chile; a neck warmer made in bamboo and cotton. Lovely and soft!

Orange garden

Mi Tía ha terminado su viaje por Europa - luego de casi dos meses de paseo, y esta delicia es una de las tantas cosas que nos trajo para recordar mi amado Chile. Cascaritas de naranjas bañadas en chocolate. Para mí un pasaje a mi niñez.

Estas  cascaritas están hechas en una confitería del Apumanque... qué suerte poder caminar unas cuadras y comprarlas!

My aunty eventually has returned to Chile after almost 2 months of travel in Europe. This is one of the wonders she brought from Chile when she first came, and was a ticket to my childhood: Orange chocolate peel.

These are from a proper sweet shop in the Apumanque shopping centre... how lucky is to be able to walk few blocks and buy them!

 Oh mi jardín! Saga ha sido poder ir acomodando las plantas que hemos adquirido en 2 años y medio. Creo que se ve algo más lleno y frondoso. No ha sido nada de fácil, pero va tomando forma. Estamos a la espera de jardinero que vendrá a hacerme los bordes y acicalarlo en general.

Oh My garden! It has been a saga to fill this place and after 2 years and a half I think is looking more frondouse, with more foliage. We are waiting for the gardener to do the borders and generally tidy everything up. 

A very, extraordinary Geeky post...

Este es un post algo especial. Quería hablarles sobre lo placentero que ha sido para mi hijo mayor un libro que le regaló su padre la semana pasada. Thomas lo ha leído con tanta pasión, que ha sido muy grato observar que no solamente quiere jugar el famoso juego online de de Roblox, también quiere programarlo y ya lo ha hecho! Esta es la diferencia para mí de ser un usuario/ consumidor a un creador, un artista!

A Thomas no le viene de la nada, no en vano su padre es un arquitecto en software como pocos, no lo digo  porque sea su mujer, lo digo porque en los años de matrimonio lo he visto trabajar duro y con amor a lo que hace, he sido testigo del respeto que sus pares le dan constantemente. Así, no muy sorpresivamente le llegó un email de Microsoft anunciándole esto:

“Querido Phil Trelford:

Felicitaciones! Estamos complacidos en otorgarle el premio MVP 2012 Microsoft®. Este premio se le da a excepcionales líderes de comunidades técnicas que activamente comparten sus altas cualidades y experiencia del mundo real con otros. Apreciamos su destacada contribución en Visual F# en las comunidades técnicas durante el año."

De tal palo, tal astilla, espero que sea el comienzo de algo interesante para mi hijo siguiendo los pasos de su padre con mucho orgullo!

This is very special post. I would like  to tell you about the pleasure that it has been for my son Thomas a programming book that his father gave him last week. He has read the book with so much passion, and it has been a such  a gratifying experience been able to observe my son that not only he wants to play the very famous online game Roblox, he also wants to program it! And he has! This is the difference for me from being a user/consumer to a creator, an artist!

For Thomas it does not come from out of the blue, his father is one of the most prestigious architect software in the industry, I do not say it because is my husband, far from that, little or nothing I know about this stuff. But I have seen with my own eyes the respect and recognition that his pairs have given him constantly. He works hard and with love. So, not so surprisingly, he got an email today from Microsoft saying this:

“Dear Phil Trelford:

Congratulations! We are pleased to present you with the 2012 Microsoft® MVP Award! This award is given to exceptional technical community leaders who actively share their high quality, real world expertise with others. We appreciate your outstanding contributions in Visual F# technical communities during the past year.”

Maybe like father like son, and this is the beginning of something interesting for Thomas, always looking up with pride to his father.
