Celebrations!

Hace unas semanas estuve de cumpleaños y creo lo he celebrado de la mejor forma posible. Con mis amigas latinas, mis amigas chilenas y la familia.

En un salón de te exquisito en mi pueblo, luego en un restaurante libanés en Londres y en Marruecos, al norte de África. Contando mis bendiciones!

Pensando en bebés! Esto los hice hace bastante tiempo ya, pero no me canso de pensar en creaciones para lindos piececitos.

Marruecos en Primavera!

Chile está cerrado y abrimos impacientes otro capítulo: Marruecos. Phillip y yo nos iremos a celebrar mi cumpleaños a Fez, una pintoresca y atractiva ciudad en el llamativo país al norte de África. No puedo esperar para ver la Medina, sus calles, bazares, Qarawiyyin - la universidad más antigua del mundo, las tintorerías de cuero al aire libre! Una interesante forma de recibir mis 42. El año pasado nos fuimos a Nueva York y fue fantástico, el ante pasado a Italia y así… Me da una linda ilusión, y los días oscuros de invierno se perciben distintos. Puede ser el comienzo de un bello ciclo. <3

Merry Xmas 2012!

Los niños totalmente felices e impresionados de cómo El Viejito Pascuero (Santa) se las ha arreglado para entrar a una casa que NO tiene chimenea... 

Como es la costumbre británica, y la que felizmente es la misma que seguimos desde niña con mi familia en Chile, los regalos se abren en la mañana del 25 de diciembre, porque el Viejito Pascuero pasa por la noche y en la mañana toda la magia queda al descubierto… 

Felicidades y espero que todos ustedes hayan tenido un merecido regalito por ahí…

The slow days of Autumn - Lentos dias..

Alejada de las pistas totalmente. Tantas cosas me han pasado últimamente que ha sido algo difícil estar a trote con el blog.

Estoy terminando una bufanda tubular masculina para un pedido especial en Suecia. Eso me ha tenido a mil, más los niños, la casa y mis aventuras con las chicas de Ely.

I have been away from the blog tracks lately. I have been so busy that it have proved a bit too hard to keep it up with the posting.

I am finishing a male tubular scarf, a special request from Sweden. That keeps me really busy, plus the children –house – and adventures with the Ely Nice girls.

Such a lovely day for a punt.

Olympic London

Nos aventuramos a la capital. Conectados en una hora en tren, queríamos sentir el espíritu olímpico que se vive en la ciudad. Para nuestra sorpresa, las cosas se veían bastante tranquilas; un Londres que fluía naturalmente sin prisa, placentero.

Nos juntamos a almorzar con mi marido que trabaja en la ciudad, por lo mismo nos concentramos en el área de Tate, Bank of England Museum y  Southwark . Teníamos ganas de ir a Stratford y ver las fronteras  de la Villa Olímpica, pero Londres es TAN grande que el día se consumió fácilmente entre el primer panorama.

Terminamos la jornada tomando refrescos y pizzas en un restaurante en las orillas del río Támesis,  mientras el vaivén de las pequeñas olas nos adormecían, ya era hora de regresar y descansar merecidamente.

We adventured to the capital. Connected by one hour train journey, we wanted to feel the Olympic spirit in the city. For our surprise, it looked very quite; a pleasant London flowing without a hurry.

We met with my husband for lunch, he works in the City, and for the same reason, we concentrated in the area of the Tate Museum, Bank of England and Southwark.  We wanted to go to Stratford and see the borders of the Olympic Village, but London is SO big that the day was consumed easily with the previous plans.

We finished our day with pizzas and refreshments in a pub by the river Thames, while the rolling of the small waves were making us sleepy, it was time to go home and rest.

Es un día tan especial para mí, el sol brilla en Uk-  algo raro, y acabo de recibir una llamada de Royal School of Music, diciéndome que mi hijo ha aprobado el examen con distinción! Qué día más hermoso para mi familia!

Hablando de manualidades, hace unos días me embarqué en una nueva aventura: las muñequitas de tela… y este fue el resultado, una mezcla entre conejo y gata para una chiquita que estaba de cumpleaños.

This is simply a great day! Sun is shining – something unusual, and I just got a phone call from The Royal School of Music saying that Thomas passed his exam with Distinction! What a wonderful day for my family!

Talking now about handcrafts, few days ago I started a new adventure: little fabric dollies and this was the result. It is a mix between a rabbit and a cat for a little birthday girl.

A very, extraordinary Geeky post...

Este es un post algo especial. Quería hablarles sobre lo placentero que ha sido para mi hijo mayor un libro que le regaló su padre la semana pasada. Thomas lo ha leído con tanta pasión, que ha sido muy grato observar que no solamente quiere jugar el famoso juego online de de Roblox, también quiere programarlo y ya lo ha hecho! Esta es la diferencia para mí de ser un usuario/ consumidor a un creador, un artista!

A Thomas no le viene de la nada, no en vano su padre es un arquitecto en software como pocos, no lo digo  porque sea su mujer, lo digo porque en los años de matrimonio lo he visto trabajar duro y con amor a lo que hace, he sido testigo del respeto que sus pares le dan constantemente. Así, no muy sorpresivamente le llegó un email de Microsoft anunciándole esto:

“Querido Phil Trelford:

Felicitaciones! Estamos complacidos en otorgarle el premio MVP 2012 Microsoft®. Este premio se le da a excepcionales líderes de comunidades técnicas que activamente comparten sus altas cualidades y experiencia del mundo real con otros. Apreciamos su destacada contribución en Visual F# en las comunidades técnicas durante el año."

De tal palo, tal astilla, espero que sea el comienzo de algo interesante para mi hijo siguiendo los pasos de su padre con mucho orgullo!

This is very special post. I would like  to tell you about the pleasure that it has been for my son Thomas a programming book that his father gave him last week. He has read the book with so much passion, and it has been a such  a gratifying experience been able to observe my son that not only he wants to play the very famous online game Roblox, he also wants to program it! And he has! This is the difference for me from being a user/consumer to a creator, an artist!

For Thomas it does not come from out of the blue, his father is one of the most prestigious architect software in the industry, I do not say it because is my husband, far from that, little or nothing I know about this stuff. But I have seen with my own eyes the respect and recognition that his pairs have given him constantly. He works hard and with love. So, not so surprisingly, he got an email today from Microsoft saying this:

“Dear Phil Trelford:

Congratulations! We are pleased to present you with the 2012 Microsoft® MVP Award! This award is given to exceptional technical community leaders who actively share their high quality, real world expertise with others. We appreciate your outstanding contributions in Visual F# technical communities during the past year.”

Maybe like father like son, and this is the beginning of something interesting for Thomas, always looking up with pride to his father.

Busy, busy bee (mum)

He encontrado un minuto de respiro  para contarles de mis andanzas de madre. Desde que mi tía se fue (ojo que aun anda paseando de lo lindo en Madrid), me he dedicado exclusivamente a poner orden  en mi casa, inscribir a los niños en distintas actividades y básicamente aprovechar del poco y nada de verano que tenemos en estas islas.

Cada día tengo actividades con ambos. Piano, natación y teatro para ambos, matemáticas y scouts para Thomas. Esto sin contemplar los sagrados estudios que trato, dentro de tanta agenda copada, poder mantener.  No tengo tiempo para tejer como quisiera o perderme en algún libro, mi alma les pertenece a mis hijos ha!

Sean está ensayando para un musical que dará con su academia de arte este fin de semana. Me da una gracia verlo tan seguro en el escenario, cantará con su pares ABC de los Jakson 5!

Cada vez que me planto la tarde entera esperando que mis hijos hagan drama -  porque a ambos les toca el mismo día pero en horarios distintos, siento una gran satisfacción de haber hecho lo correcto, no sólo les fascina asistir y participar en el curso, también se rodean de niñitos que tienen sus mismas inclinaciones artísticas e intereses académicos. Es sumamente reconfortante.

I have found a minute to tell you all about my mother duties. Since my aunty left (but she is still happy walking around Madrid), I have dedicated myself to organize our summer agenda and enroll the children in several activities.

Every day we had something going on. Piano, swimming and drama for both of them, maths and scouts for my eldest. Oh!... And I am not even talking about the daily routine of studies that I try to enforce when we have a spare time. I have not had the time to knit or loose myself in a book ( I have plenty in my bedside table that I would like to eat). My soul belongs to them.

Sean is rehearsing for a musical with his class of his art academy this weekend. I find him so lovely the way he conducts himself on stage. He will sing ABC by the Jakson 5!

Every time I am waiting all afternoon and part of the evening for my children to do their drama lessons - they have it at the same day, different hours, I get this confirmation within me that I have done the right thing. Not just that they love it, also, they get to be surrounded by little children with the same artistic inclinations and academic interest. It is very reassuring.

Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music ~ Examen de Piano

Nunca quise que mis hijos estudiaran piano con el fin de obtener los famosos grados y consecuentemente que siguieran avanzado en las escalinatas detrás del óptimo grado octavo. No! Al contrario, nuestro deseo como padres siempre fue que  disfrutaran de la música, con el solo fin de vivirla y experimentarla en goce. Pero lo inevitable llegó y mi hijo mayor se interesó en enrolarse en esta aventura de perseguir Grados. Y lo hicimos.

Nos convocaron en la escuela de música del King’s y como un caballero que es, presentó sus piezas musicales, las tocó y enfrentó el desafío a lo British! Cool, Calm and Collect.

I never wanted my children to learn piano just in order to get the famous grades. No! On the contrary, we wanted as parents for them to enjoy music, live it, experiment it through joy. But the inevitable arrived and my eldest, by his own desire,  started the interesting Grade chase.

We were invited to the music school of King’s and as the gentleman he is, he presented his pieces, he played them and he "faced the music"  in a very Brrritish way: Cool, Calm and Collected.
